Botanical shower panel designs
– ORDER ONLINE, or customise

These fine engravings from Robert John Thornton’s Temple of Flora collection are amazingly intricate natural studies of plants from the 1800’s. Each one is reproduced from Aquatint and Mezzotint engravings, with original hand-colouring. These super-high resolution images are perfect for bringing some dramatic beauty and natural style to your bathroom.

Of course, like our other SHOWERSCAPE designs, these can be tailored to suit your wash area size. Select the image you'd like, then select from a range of panel size options that will fit typical shower tray sizes. You can then trim these to fit perfectly, if needed, when you install them.

Click on the images below to see them larger and choose your panel sizes.

NOTE: If you need a specific size not listed or want to see how the image could crop differently over the panels, please get in touch - we’ll set up our Art Designs just how you need it.

creator of one of the world’s finest botanical publications.

The English physician and botanical writer Robert John Thornton (1768-1837) is best known for his ambitious publication ‘New illustration of the sexual system of Carolus von Linnaeus’, which includes the illustrated 'Temple of Flora'.

Between 1798 and 1807, a total of thirty-three coloured plates were produced, engraved in aquatint, stipple and line engraving. Although this work is now considered by botanists to be one of the greatest ever flower books, at the time it was a very different story. Due to a combination of lack of public interest, Thornton’s bad fortune and poor decisions, the project was financially disastrous and he died destitute, never achieving his grand ambitions.

While it may have been an unhappy ending for Thornton, he has left us a great gift with what has been described as one of the loveliest books in the world.

IMAGE DETAILS

We have chosen some of our favourites in the selection above. Within the product details we have put together visuals of how they could look in a typical two-panel install. Also included is the complete un-cropped print for you to see, together with a close up section of each print to give you an idea of the detail in the etchings.

Due to the nature of these original artworks, and limitations with cropping, they will best suit certain panel sizes and combinations – wider or taller. For this reason, we also offer matching colour panels which can be used to feature alongside the image to complete the installation and compliment the look and feel of each of the artworks.
